the culture of places

i'm not a travel artist, and i want to be careful about the difference. travel is about where you go. what i actually make work about is the culture of places — the way a room teaches its people how to move, how to eat, how to wait, how to belong. a market in ha giang and a hotel lobby in zurich are, to me, the same question asked in two languages: how does a space hold a human being. if you build rooms — hotels, restaurants, places where people gather — this is the conversation i most want to have.
