levi's music project brings young musicians together with people who have already done it, and lets them build something in the open. i directed and produced the third season across the region as the head of my production company — wrote the visual language, ran the shoot, made a series of documentary videos and lectures with rarely seen music producers and musicians, and a final music show featuring performances by young musicians. seventy-five edits went out. i had a production team i am still endlessly proud of.
Documentary episode with Monetochka.
(by the way, it's her song playing in the latest spider-man movie. haha.) out of the whole series i especially love this video, because it's simple, a bit naive and childlike, yet very inspiring.
On set, season three.
for the filming of the final show we did a massive amount of work with the sound and art departments. we rented a large lecture hall and managed to build a stage there for the musicians' performances and live sound recording, an auditorium for the audience, and an improvised show space for interviews. in the photo — our sound engineers family, konstantin goldynsky jr and konstantin goldynsky sr.Directing the shoot.
on my left is anna, a manager from the rsvp agency we collaborated with on this project — i am incredibly grateful to the team for the level of creative freedom we had, and for the balance we kept between genuine drive and the brand guidelines. on my right is the show's host, sam, a little nervous before going on stage — in the end everything went perfectly. somewhere off-camera my producers and my co-director andrew are running around, and we are getting ready for the next shot. The production team at work.
for the final show i selected the most diverse groups of musicians possible, because i wanted to showcase diversity — different approaches, different styles. i wanted to show that levi's supports very different kinds of musicians, which is why we could combine heavy rock, beautiful ethno-soul, and really cool pop-jazz in the finale. i still get goosebumps from those performances.
The final show.
similar shows were filmed by other directors in different countries — i'm proud that for the cis countries, we were the ones who filmed it.
